Terms of use
Updated 17 October 2026 · Version draft-2026-10-17. This is the pre-launch version: live purchases are not open and the seller’s legal identity and contact disclosures are incomplete. Paid-product terms below describe the intended offer, not an invitation to pay now.
1. About these terms
Portfolio Score is operated by a sole trader trading as Portfolio Score. In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to that operator; “you” refers to the person using the service. A creator who shares a referral link is not the seller or service provider.
These terms cover the website, accounts and portfolio-analysis tools. The product description, price and offer shown before an accepted purchase also form part of that purchase. Our Privacy notice explains how we use personal information. You can print or save these pages using your browser. For account, purchase, complaint or privacy questions, contact us through the Contact page. If the Contact page says sending is unavailable, the contact service has not been enabled.
2. What the service does
Portfolio Score helps you examine holdings through historical returns, risk, diversification, calculated scores, comparisons and hypothetical portfolio changes. It uses available market and company information from Financial Modeling Prep (FMP), your inputs and our scoring methods. It is not a broker: it does not hold your investments or place trades for you.
Scores are calculated by our formulas, not supplied as scores by FMP and not generated by AI. They describe a portfolio under the selected scoring method, benchmark, period and available data. Historical portfolio returns can be reconstructed using today’s holdings and weights; they are not necessarily your actual realised investment performance.
Proposals and tests may identify securities and hypothetical allocations. They optimise a scoring model, not your personal financial circumstances, tax position, objectives or ability to bear losses. They are not a suitability assessment or a promise of improved investment returns. Investment values can fall, and historical performance or a higher score does not predict future results. Consider your circumstances and, where appropriate, obtain independent advice before making an investment decision.
Market data can be delayed, incomplete, corrected, plan-restricted or unavailable. We identify material coverage limitations rather than invent missing production data. Check the date, coverage, benchmark and method on each result. Loading a saved result does not refresh its data. An explicitly labelled development or marketing illustration is not actual investment performance or a scored proposal.
3. Accounts and acceptable use
Use the service lawfully, give accurate account and billing information, keep your sign-in method secure and tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access. You are responsible for checking the holdings, weights and settings you enter. Do not submit another person’s confidential information without authority.
Access is for your own research. You must not scrape or systematically extract the site or licensed data, resell its content, share an account to avoid usage limits, interfere with the service or try to access another person’s data. Reasonable security, concurrency and request-rate controls apply in addition to calculation-credit limits. We may proportionately restrict access to investigate misuse, protect users or comply with law. Where possible we will explain the restriction and give you a way to challenge an error; urgent security action may happen first. A restriction does not remove your statutory refund rights.
4. Free access and paid products
Free access is limited to the features made available without payment; it does not include an annual allowance. The pricing page and checkout summary identify the features, limits, total price and currency before a purchase. The intended paid products are:
- Portfolio Check: available once per account, with one analysis of a fixed allocation of up to 25 holdings and one generation of the four Score Proposals. Its purchased result remains available in your account but cannot be used to analyse a different allocation or refreshed as another Check. Further analyses require Investor or Investor Plus.
- Investor: an annually renewing subscription with the full analysis and testing toolkit, up to five years of available price history, five editable saved portfolios and 50 calculation credits per weekly allowance period.
- Investor Plus: the same analysis and testing tools, with up to ten years of available price history, ten editable saved portfolios and 250 calculation credits per weekly allowance period. Both plans default to five years when you start a new analysis.
- Extra credits: optional packs of 50 calculation credits for customers with an active annual subscription. The weekly allowance is used first. Purchased credits do not expire, but cannot be spent without an active annual subscription.
One portfolio calculation uses one credit. Generating all four Score Proposals uses one additional credit. Some testing or comparison actions calculate several distinct portfolios and use several credits. Loading a completed result, changing chart views, editing a draft and saving an already verified result are not new calculations. Weekly allowances reset every seven days, do not roll over and are separate from the annual payment date. Settings shows the allowance and next reset. A failed request is normally released without a credit charge; contact us about an interrupted request or an incorrect charge.
An eligible first paid Investor or Investor Plus signup receives 50 additional credits for seven days from its verified first annual payment, once per account. Renewals and upgrades do not create another signup bonus. Usage draws from weekly credits, then unexpired bonus credits, then purchased credits. If support issues a single-use allowance-reset pass, it must be used within one calendar month; it restores the active plan’s weekly allowance without changing its reset date or adding purchased credits.
Available history depends on FMP coverage and may be shorter than the plan limit. PDF reports are included with Portfolio Check, Investor and Investor Plus for eligible saved analyses using the Default scoring method. They reflect the saved holdings, settings, data and analysis date; downloading does not refresh the analysis. Custom-score PDF reports are not currently supported.
Downloading a PDF uses no calculation credits. If Score Proposals have not been generated for that saved analysis, you can download the report without them or choose to generate and include them. Generating missing proposals follows the calculation-credit rules above and requires your confirmation. Do not assume a future or unfinished feature is included unless it is expressly offered for your purchase.
5. Prices, payment and tax
Prices may be displayed in GBP, EUR or USD. The checkout total, including any applicable taxes, discounts and credits, is shown before you authorise payment. Your payment provider may impose its own currency-conversion charges. Currency selection does not determine your tax residence or make a country eligible for sales.
Stripe handles checkout and payment. We receive payment identifiers and status, not your complete card number. Paid access is activated only after payment is verified, not merely because you return to the website from checkout. Contact us if a payment succeeds but access is missing. Live ordering is currently disabled; no sale territories or cross-border tax arrangements are represented as approved by these terms.
6. Creator offers and Check credit
An eligible creator link may reduce a Portfolio Check or the first annual subscription payment by 20%. The discount does not apply to renewals or extra-credit packs. A creator may receive commission from us, at no extra charge to you. Checkout shows any applied offer; an offer is not applied retrospectively merely because you later supply a creator link.
If you buy a Check and then a first annual subscription within 30 days, the amount you actually paid for that Check may be credited once against the subscription in the same currency. This is a payment credit, not a second percentage discount, cash refund or transferable balance. We will show the credit and the final amount due before you pay.
7. Renewal, upgrades and stopping a plan
Investor and Investor Plus renew automatically each year unless you cancel renewal. Checkout shows the first payment and standard renewal price; a first-year creator discount does not continue at renewal. Manage billing and cancel future renewal in Settings through the billing portal. Cancel before the renewal date to stop the next charge. If the portal is unavailable, contact us with your cancellation request.
Cancellation stops future renewal; access normally continues to the end of the paid period. It does not itself delete your account, saved results or billing records. Existing saved results remain readable after expiry, but new calculations and editing require the relevant access. Purchased credits remain recorded but cannot be spent without an active annual plan. Cancellation and a refund request are separate actions.
An available Investor-to-Investor Plus upgrade is priced for the remaining part of your existing annual period. The amount due is shown before payment; the existing renewal date is retained. Self-service downgrades are not currently offered. Contact us about a downgrade, billing correction or refund. We will give reasonable notice of a material change to a paid feature or allowance and explain any applicable options or remedies.
8. Cancellation rights and refunds
Your statutory consumer rights apply alongside these terms. For UK consumer distance purchases of services or digital content, a 14-day cancellation period normally starts when the contract is made, subject to the rules for that product. Other countries may provide additional rights. You do not need to give a reason to exercise an applicable withdrawal right.
The current checkout does not obtain a separate waiver of withdrawal rights. Agreeing to these terms, opening a result or running an analysis does not by itself waive those rights. We will not impose a blanket “no refunds after use” rule. Any lawful charge for service supplied before withdrawal requires the conditions for that charge to have been met, including any required express request for early supply. Any future immediate-supply acknowledgement must be presented separately before purchase.
If a paid Check does not deliver a usable analysis, ask for a working replacement or an appropriate refund. If any paid service is materially faulty, not as described, not delivered or not provided with reasonable care and skill, we will investigate and provide the remedy required by law. Duplicate charges and billing errors can also be corrected. A disclosed data limitation is not a guarantee that every security has complete history, but it does not excuse failure to supply what was sold.
Outside an applicable withdrawal period, stopping use or cancelling renewal does not automatically refund the unused portion of an annual plan. Mandatory rights and remedies for service failure still apply. Refunds of credit packs, upgrades and linked Check payments must be reconciled with access, credits already used and any Check payment credited against an annual plan; we will explain the adjustment, not use it to refuse a legal entitlement.
To cancel or request a refund, send a clear statement through the Contact page with your account email, product, purchase date and order or invoice reference. For example: “I wish to cancel my [product] purchased on [date], order [reference], under my account [email].” This wording is optional; any clear cancellation statement is sufficient. Do not send passwords or full card details. Where a statutory withdrawal refund is due, we will make it within the applicable legal deadline, normally 14 days from your notice, using the original payment method unless you agree otherwise, without a refund fee. Bank processing time may follow.
9. Availability and changes
The site depends on FMP and on hosting, authentication, database and payment services. We will use reasonable care to provide paid functionality but cannot promise uninterrupted availability or that third-party market data is error-free. If we cannot deliver a purchased service, contact us so we can investigate and provide any remedy due.
We may improve features and scoring methods. A saved result describes the method and data used when calculated; rescoring can produce a different result. We will explain material changes affecting an active paid plan, give reasonable advance notice where practicable and provide any cancellation or refund remedy required by law. Updated terms apply prospectively, not as a way to remove existing rights. Renewal price changes will be communicated before they take effect so you can cancel renewal.
10. Your information and our content
You retain rights in the portfolio information you enter and permit us to process it to provide the service as described in our Privacy notice. Portfolio Score software, page designs, scoring explanations and licensed market data remain subject to their respective owners' rights. Buying access gives you personal, non-transferable use of the service, not permission to redistribute licensed data or copy the software.
11. Responsibility and consumer protections
We are responsible for foreseeable loss or damage caused by our breach of contract or failure to use reasonable care and skill, subject to applicable law. We do not guarantee investment performance, protect you against market movements or take responsibility for independent investment decisions simply because you used a score. That does not excuse a defect in the service or exclude liability where the law prevents exclusion.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot legally be excluded. Your mandatory consumer and data-protection rights remain unaffected. If a provision is unenforceable, the other provisions continue to apply to the extent allowed by law.
12. Complaints and applicable law
For a complaint, contact the Contact page with a short explanation and relevant account or order reference. We will investigate, explain the outcome and any available remedy. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, without removing mandatory protections or rights to bring proceedings in the courts available to you as a consumer where you live.
